How Can You Reach For The Borasu Pass Trek?
To begin with the Gaumukh pass trek, one must reach Ganhotri village, approx 240 km away from Dehradun. So no matter where you are, you must reach Dehradun, from where you can easily find buses or cabs to Gangotri village. Here are a few convenient commutes to travelling to Dehradun:
By Road: With good road connectivity and NH7, travelling to Dehradun is comfortable no matter where you travel. There are also bus services and shared cab facilities available.
By Air: Dehradun has a domestic airport, and many cities have a direct flight to this airport.
By Train: The Dehradun Junction has good connectivity with most cities. You can board Shatabdi, Rajdhani, or Garib-rath for a convenient train journey.
What Is The Best Time To Go On A Gaumukh Trek?
If you want to go on the Gaumukh trek, plan your trip between April to June and September to November. If you love summers, plan your hike from April to June as you will get to see the glacier meltings. And if you want to visit the trek in cool weather, go from September to November. However, you must try to avoid the monsoon weather as the trails get slippery and make it difficult for you to walk.

Gangotri, Uttarkashi and Gangotri Tour Itinerary
Today you will travel in a taxi for 283 km to reach Gangotri, where your hike will begin.
On the way, you will cross Uttarkashi, another popular starting point for many treks.
You can take a short break in Gangnani, a natural hot spring bath.
After you reach Gangotri, find accommodation in a guesthouse, hotel or campsite for the night.
In the evening, explore the nearby area and learn more about tomorrow's trek.
End your day with some delicious dinner and sleep for the night as you start your trek on foot tomorrow.
Now it's time to start walking on the beaten trails and towards your campsite.
The entire trek is along the Bhagirathi river, so you can splash your face with cold water whenever you feel tired.
Keep yourself hydrated throughout the hike, and eat healthy snacks to keep you energised.
Once you reach the Chirbasa campsite, it's time to find campsite accommodation and rest.
You can explore the nearby area and do excellent nature photography in the evening.
End your day with a tasty dinner under the starry sky.
Now it's time to head back to your tent and rest for the night.
When you start walking from Chirabasa, you will find barren terrains. It is the reason why these trails are referred to as Arctic Tundra by many trekkers.
You will pass through dense forests on the way, so you must prefer doing this trek during broad daylight.
When you visit Bhojbasa, you will see a small temple.
Now it's time to find campsite accommodation near the river and settle.
Later in the evening, spend your time exploring the nearby area and glancing over the setting sunset. You can even get a perfect time-lapse of the magnificent sunset.
At night, eat dinner in the starry sky beside a warm bonfire.
After dinner, you must return to your tent to rest as you will require more energy for tomorrow's trek.
You will trek towards Gaumukh, which is 4 km from here, and return to the campsite in the evening.
On the way, you get a perfect panoramic view of the Bhagirathi peaks.
After you reach Gaumukh, you will see the source of the holy Ganga, which is at the height of 3,890 metres above the land.
After exploring the complete area, enjoy some light snacks or lunch here.
Click plenty of pictures of the scenic view and wrap up to return to the Bhojbasa campsite.
After you reach the campsite, spend some time near the river. You can also try meditating here.
Later at night, it's time to enjoy dinner and head back to your tent to sleep.
The trails to Tapovan have one of the best alpine meadows.
As you walk further, the tracks get steeper; you get a clearer view of the surrounding peaks.
You will walk past the small mountains where Saints practised meditation.
Once in Tapovan, find a tent accommodation and settle down.
It's time to explore the nearby area, relax and enjoy the view of the magnificent snow-capped mountains.
You can try meditating in the late evening to soak in the energy of the place.
End your day with a tasty dinner under the starry sky.
You can spend some extra time taking in the warmth of the bonfire and sharing stories with your fellow travellers.
Later return to the tent and rest for the night.
Now eat breakfast and wrap up your things to continue your return journey.
You will walk through the Chirbasa trails, and this trek gets a bit difficult; always keep a walking stick handy.
Fill your water bottles to stay hydrated on the way.

After you reach Bhojbasa, settle down in your tent.
Spend your evening interacting with the local people and relaxing.
Next, enjoy some dinner and soak in the warmth of the bonfire.
Later, head back to your tent and sleep as you need energy for tomorrow's return journey.
Don't forget to eat some filling breakfast.
On the way, you can enjoy some snacks from the local food stalls.
You can also fill your bottles from the nearby water streams.
During your trek, you will cross different villages where you can interact with the local people to know more about the area.
Once in Gangotri, settle down in your tent.
You can return to Dehradun on the same day, but most people prefer to enjoy another day on the foothills of the mountains.
If you decide to stay, spend your evening relaxing.
Eat your last dinner with a fantastic view, and head back to your tent to sleep.

WHAT TO TAKE
- Backpack (50 to 60 liters) A strongly built backpack with good support is compulsory for a trek. (Rain cover is important)
- Sturdy Trekking Shoes The shoes should be strong enough with good support. The people ask if sports shoes would be comfortable but it is good to bring the right trekking shoes.
- The Clothes You Should Bring On a Trek Avoid keeping extra clothes because it only makes you backpack heavy.
- Trek Pants – The jeans are never suitable for a trek so you need at least 2-3 trek pants for treks carry more for longer treks.
- Jacket – Jackets are very important to carry on a trek it protects you against the chilly weather. So carry 2 jackets on a week long trek.
- Layers of warm Clothing Carry warm woolen layers or fleece. Carry more layers during winter season (at least 2 to 3) and less during summer.
- Thermals – The Temperature decreases at night so you might be need thermals for Night.
